Eric's Small Group Story
My spiritual journey started in a small group in NYC in 1990 when I was invited to join other creative artists for an informal bible study in the home of a jazz singer, led by another talented musical couple.
It continued in Sydney through a similar small group of people who loved me & taught me how to have a real life-changing relationship with God. This group also met in people's homes and was led by a Kiwi interior painter/designer who showed me how to follow Jesus, share my faith & make disciples.
None of these "everyday Christians" were paid Church Staff or had Theology degrees, but they made a difference! And that difference has had ripple effects beyond my life, as I've passed their simple teachings and friendship onward and outward.
This is the work we're doing at Bridges. Bridges is a 501(c)3 nonprofit that equips & empowers regular people to use their spiritual gifts, talents & passions to build Christ- centered communities outside the walls of the church - because people grow more in circles than sitting in rows.
With your help, Bridges can do even more to change lives by providing training & support to aspiring small group facilitators. Join Us in our mission to create 500 new community groups led by trained Bridge Leaders by 2025 to transform America - one community at a time.
Cheers!

The latest project of custom animated videos is part of an innovative patient education program to improve outcomes and the Veteran Experience @ Long Beach Healthcare System. The program, titled VIP Experience - Patient Education Transformed, gives Veterans a state-of-the-art healthcare experience while providing new tools to enhance provider-Veteran engagement both in-person and virtually. This program was developed by a team of experts working with division chiefs at the VA to build the VIP Experience to meet their patients' needs and clinician's workflow. Ranging in focus from welcoming new patients to the Long Beach VA to explaining what to expect in a patient journey to tips on accessing specialized eye care, these videos use animation to help tell the story. Tim Jones, CEO of Health Nuts Media, notes;
"Going back to Frank Capra, Ted Geisel, Mel Blanc, and the animators at Warner Bros. who produced animated videos for the military in the 1940s, animation has long been used to overcome literacy and health literacy issues, break down cultural barriers, and deliver important health information. The leadership team at VA Long Beach has an impressive vision for delivering a transformational patient education experience for Veterans in the 21st century, and we are honored to be a part of it."
Join Walt Dannenberg, Tibor Rubin Medical Center Director, for an animated tour of the VA Long Beach Healthcare System. From an overview of the medical campus and a list of services & programs offered - to an introduction of Tibor Rubin, Mr. Dannenberg shows that at VA Long Beach "there is no better mission than to serve those who have served."

Music Horror Stories - Creative Writing
Excerpt of one of my true "music horror stories" published 2001.
I CAN SING...REALLY!
by Eric Michael Cap
It was a typical sunny Saturday morning in Hollywood. I had a short session booked with a guy claiming to be a producer, who had also asked me to find a singer for a song he wanted to present to some major labels. I had made arrangements with a female singer named Rebecca who was interning for me. I told Rebecca this would be a good opportunity for her to build her demo reel...or so I thought.
The producer arrived an hour late for the session, without an apology, and then handed me a cassette tape from which he wanted us to record an eight-bar segment and loop it. This would be our music track. After the loop was in place, we were ready to record the vocals. The song was “You Remind Me.”
At this point the producer told me that he was also a singer and that he wanted to sing the track.
I said, “Sure.” I gave Rebecca a quick, bemused look and mic’d him up. “We’re ready to go. Let’s run through it,” I said.
After one bar, it was obvious this guy was not a singer or even close to being one. Not even auto-tune pitch correction software was going to work on this track. I politely suggested he give Rebecca a shot at it, but he insisted he could do it. “I think I got it now,” he said. The only thing he got was on my nerves!
I told him honestly and bluntly, after a few more wasted takes, that this was not working and that it would be in his best interest to use the remaining time he had booked to record Rebecca’s vocal. Finally, he surrendered and I started tracking Rebecca, who did a great job nailing the song in a few takes.
“OK, let’s mix this ‘baby’ down,” I said.
“Hold on, I wanna have another go,” responded the client.
“Sure,” I said, “it’s your session.”
Listening to this man sing was like listening to my neighbors’ dogs howling at night or my wife’s children’s crying (she runs a daycare business)...painful to my sensitive ears. Not only was he out of tune, his timing and phrasing were completely off.
To make matters worse, he didn’t even know all the words, and had to keep stopping to ask Rebecca, who, by chance, knew the song by heart. He squiggled them down on a piece of scrap paper and said, “OK, I got it.”
It seemed the more he tried, the worse he got. But, he kept insisting and it was his session. Eventually, I looked at the clock and said, “Time’s up.”
I had sympathy for him and mixed a quick instrumental and vocal mix using Rebecca’s takes. Handing him the cassette, I suggested he look into some other studios for future recordings. I suggested that next time he should be on time and prepared for those sessions and that he needed to work with real singers, as I didn’t feel that was his strongpoint (to put it mildly). I closed the door and Rebecca and I burst into spontaneous laughter, after which I apologized for one crazy session.
